Artie Gray Wilson-Norman 1938 - 2016 Artie Gray Wilson-Norman, a former teacher in the Aledo, ISD. passed away Thursday, February 19, 2016 in a Fort Worth Hospital. Mrs. Norman was born January 4, 1938 in Normangee, Leon County, Texas to Ed and Myrtle Wilson. Her father died when Artie was eighteen months old and the family was reared by a mom who worked as a cook in a hospital. Artie Wilson attended Normangee schools and was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1956. She continued her education at Sam Houston State and graduated in three years by attending summer school. She married James Earl Norman, whom she met at Sam Houston State, on December 27, 1958. She recieved her college degree in 1959. Mrs Norman acquired her first job at Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas. She taught home economics at Jim Ned for eight years and resigned in 1968 to be at home with her three children. Lance was born in 1963, Holly in 1966 and Shannon in 1967. The family moved to Abilene in 1968, where her husband, James was employed by the Abilene Reporter-News and Abilene Christian University. Another move took place in 1972 when the family came to Aledo. James took a job with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. After four years a stay-at-home mom, Artie decided to continue her education and obtained her Masters Degree in Early Childhood from Texas Women's University in 1976. Mrs. Norman was hired by the Aledo ISD in 1976 and taught third grade there until her retirement in 1995. Artie was an accomplished artist and active in church and ladies organizations in Parker County. Mrs. Norman was a Bible school teacher at the Aledo Church of Christ for more than thirty years and was an officer in the Parker County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Norman was honored in the year 2000 as Outstanding Club Woman of the Year in Parker County for her work with Alpha Delta Kappa, and international honor for women educators. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Norman; a son, Lance; her daughter Holly Noel Sampson, and her husband Joe; and her daughter Shannon Lourae Benoit. Mrs. Norman is also survived by her sister, Jo Williams and her husband Dave; five grand children, Corinne, Lana and Analynn Norman; Paige and Madeline Senoit; two great-grandchildren, Ashton Walker and Roman Pierce.
