Betty Jo Couch February 12, 1951 – August 6, 2025

On the evening of August 6, 2025, in North Richland Hills, Texas, the gentle soul of Betty Jo Couch was called home to the Lord. She was 74 years old, a woman whose life was rich in love, laughter, family bonds, and a deep sense of kindness that touched all who knew her. Born on February 12, 1951, Betty Jo was raised in a Christian home where faith, compassion, and a sense of responsibility were woven into her character from the very start. As the eldest sister, she not only grew into her own person but also became a guiding hand and caretaker to her two younger sisters. She learned early in life the joy and fulfillment of giving of herself for the sake of others—a quality that would remain a defining part of her nature for all her days. Betty Jo was a proud graduate of Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School, class of 1969. It was during those high school years that she first met a young man named Edwin E. "Eddie" Couch. Life's journey led them in separate directions for a time, but God's timing is always perfect—Betty Jo and Eddie reconnected in 1985, rekindling a spark that quickly grew into a steadfast love. On April 4, 1986, they were united in marriage, beginning a chapter filled with devotion, companionship, and shared joy. Betty Jo was a woman of many passions, but above all, she was a storyteller. She was an avid reader with an extraordinary gift for bringing words to life—so much so that when she described a book, you felt as though you had already read it yourself. Her love of history and heritage found a perfect outlet in genealogy, a pursuit she followed with remarkable dedication, tracing her family's roots back to the 1700s. Yet her greatest joy was never found in hobbies or pastimes—it was found in people. Her family was her heart's treasure, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She adored her sisters, celebrated her children, and absolutely delighted in her granddaughters, who were her pride and joy. Whether sharing laughter around the table, exchanging stories, or simply being together, Betty Jo knew that these were the moments that made life rich. She was also a spirited competitor in the realm of family games. In Yahtzee, she was formidable; in Wahoo, she was legendary. If you were lucky enough to have her as a partner, victory was almost certain. But if you found yourself across the board from her, you were in trouble—her silent, strategic dismantling of your marbles was swift and merciless, and she did it all with a knowing smile. Those who knew Betty Jo will remember her as a woman of warmth, generosity, and an open heart. She was always ready to lend a hand, to offer comfort, or to step in when someone was in need. Her kindness was not just an occasional gesture—it was her way of life. She is survived by her beloved husband, Edwin "Eddie" Couch; her daughters, Detra Boydstun, Ali Boydstun, and Danielle Boydstun; her sisters, Rita Ashley and Wilma Brown and husband Chris; her treasured granddaughters, Reanna Boydstun and fiancé Ramiro Muniz, and Megan French; her brothers-in-law, Randy Couch and wife Geni, and Billy Couch; her nephew Mikul; and a host of other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lynn Goss, and Bill and Naomi Couch. A graveside funeral service honoring Betty Jo's life will be held on Wednesday, August 13, at 10:00 AM at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville, Texas. Betty Jo's legacy is one of love that spanned generations, laughter that filled rooms, and a quiet strength that lifted others without them even realizing it. Those who were blessed to share life with her will carry her memory in their hearts, knowing that the best way to honor her is to live as she did—with kindness, with joy, and with an unwavering devotion to the ones we love.
