Betty Jean Davenport, age 91, passed away Wednesday August 9, 2017.
Graveside Service Wednesday August 16th , 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Betty was born in Nogales, Arizona on May 23, 1926 to Phillip and Francine Raymond. She moved to Fort Worth as a child and was later adopted by her great-uncle and aunt, Samuel and Ruth Smith. She was a graduate of Polytechnic High School and was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. Betty was married to A.J. Bishop from 1952 until his death in 1972 and had three children, Jim, Janie and Susan. In 1988, Betty met and married Bill Davenport, who preceded her in death in 2014.
Betty was a member of Handley United Methodist Church and was active in the Altar Guild. She loved gardening and because plants loved her, they flourished under her care. She also had a flair for home decorating. She favored traditional furniture, particularly antiques, and possessed remarkable talent and patience to restore deteriorated pieces to their original beauty.
Her love of animals began when Betty was just a child. As a teenager, she trained her six dogs to climb a ladder and sit patiently on the garage roof for a picture. Because of her fondness for animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the Humane Society of North Texas or another animal related charity of your choosing.
Betty is survived by her son, Jim Bishop, and daughters, Janie Burrow and Susie Mitchell. Betty was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson.
