In Loving Memory of Donald Wayne Allen Jr.
1964 - 2024
Donald Wayne Allen Jr., known affectionately as Don, or known by "Don, the Great" his cherished congregation at Shady Grove Baptist Church, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at 4:13 PM in Carrolton Regional Medical Center. Born on August 21, 1964, in Jackson, Mississippi, Don's life was a remarkable tapestry of love, achievement, and adventure.
A beloved father, husband, son, and brother, Don is survived by his devoted wife, Esmeralda; his children, Tyler, Trey, Jessica, and Jose; and his brothers, Steven and Warren. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the family he cherished deeply.
Don's educational journey began at Mize Attendance Center, leading to a distinguished career as the Director of Sourcing in the clothing industry. His professional life took him to over 30 countries, where he left an indelible mark on companies like Dickies and Milano Hat Company. At Milano, Don's leadership during a challenging year in 2020 was instrumental in revitalizing the company, an achievement that spoke volumes about his commitment and ingenuity. His passion for excellence extended beyond his professional life; he furthered his business education with individual classes at Texas Wesleyan University.
A man of many talents, Don was known for his love of photography, a passion he indulged during his extensive travels. Sundays were reserved for his culinary talents as he smoked brisket and grilled for his family. He found joy in fishing with his sons, an activity that created countless cherished memories. An enthusiast of carpentry and automotive work, Don often showcased his skills by crafting and selling his work.
Don's entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his generosity. He was deeply involved in charitable causes, contributing significantly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Shriner's Hospital for Children. His acts of kindness were a testament to his compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to helping others.
One memorable story from his life captures Don's indomitable spirit. A few years ago, Tyler and Don were fishing at Grapevine Lake when they discovered their boat was taking on water. Amid the panic of the situation, Don remained calm, taking decisive action to reach the nearest shore. With a smile and a laugh, he managed the crisis with characteristic grace and humor, demonstrating his ability to find joy even in life's unexpected challenges.
Don's life was a celebration of love, dedication, and boundless enthusiasm. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he so freely gave.
