Obituary

Janet Gerounda Evans, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at her oldest daughter's home in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 13, 1945, in Texarkana, Texas, to the late Leonard Garner Sr. and Ola Mae Clemmons. Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Thomas Roy Evans, who passed on January 27, 2016; her brother, Lenzy Garner Clemmons Jr.; and her sisters, Doris Eluese Evans and Bonnie Sue Day.

Janet is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Johnson and husband, Robert, and Sabrina Duckworth and husband, Dusty; six grandchildren, Ashley Luzzi and husband, Rick, Brooke Boller, Madison Boger, Haley Duckworth, Kane Johnson, and Blayze Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren, Tripton Luzzi, Ja'Dyxx Smith, Adley Boger, Parker Boger, Ashlyn Luzzi, Brooklyn Luzzi, Nora Boger, and Livi Rice. She is also survived by her brothers, Johnny Clemmons and his partner Bill Nicholson, and Gary Clemmons and his wife Janie, as well as many additional family members and friends who loved her dearly. For most of her life, Janet devoted herself to caring for her family as a homemaker. At times, she also ran an in-home daycare, lovingly caring for the children of others as if they were her own. She also worked briefly at the hospital in Springdale, Arkansas, where her caring nature shone through in her interactions with patients and staff. Alongside her husband, she supported several family restaurant ventures, including one connected to a bowling alley. A steadfast and loving partner, Janet proudly stood by Thomas throughout his 20 years of service in the United States Navy. Janet enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time with family—whether visiting, watching the kids swim, bowling, or cooking a big meal. She also enjoyed gathering with family to watch the home movies her husband was well known for creating or simply relaxing together to enjoy a favorite movie or TV show. Trips to the casino, bingo nights, and a few spins on the slot machines also brought her joy. She was stubborn to a fault and always goofy and silly just to get a laugh out of you—and she loved to laugh. Janet had a wonderful sense of humor and an endless supply of stories, especially the funny ones about her family. She delighted in retelling them again and again, reliving those amazing moments that brought everyone so much joy. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. To nearly everyone who knew her, she was simply "Nana." Janet had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved, and she built lasting friendships wherever she went. Janet was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Rogers, Arkansas, where her faith guided her life and relationships. She will be remembered for her laughter, warmth, devotion, and the deep love she held for her family. Her life was a testament to kindness, humor, and grace—qualities that continue to live on in the generations she so dearly cherished.
