In Loving Memory of Jeffrey Ash Sturgeon
1977 - 2024
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Ash Sturgeon, a loving husband, devoted father, son, and friend. Jeffrey passed away peacefully in Burleson, Texas on November 12, 2024, at the age of 47, surrounded by his family and held in the arms of his soulmate, Niki, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 24, 1977, in La Porte, Indiana, to Ronald and Doretta Sturgeon, Jeffrey's life was one of unwavering strength, deep love, and a relentless pursuit of joy. Known for his warm heart and generous spirit, Jeffrey touched the lives of all who knew him. He was the best son, father and friend, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
Jeffrey's greatest joy in life was his deep love for his wife, Niki Sturgeon. The two met at a gym, where their romance blossomed, leading to Jeff's heartfelt proposal at HardEight BBQ in front of family and friends in November of 2019. Their love story culminated in a beautiful private wedding on November 11, 2020, in Plano, Texas. Their bond was inseparable, built on shared music, laughter, spontaneous slow dances and many treasured moments together. They were each other's soulmate, best friend, and confidante.
Though his body was ravaged by cancer, Jeffrey's spirit remained unbroken. He fought with unmatched strength and perseverance, never complaining, always focused on his family and his love for Niki. He made sure to stay with them long enough to celebrate his and Niki's fourth wedding anniversary, a testament to his selflessness and devotion.
Jeffrey was a loving father to his seven children: Dezirae, Andrew, Azlynn, Ashton, Paizley, Azalea, and Audrie. He was a dad who made each child feel special, ensuring that they all had unique, meaningful relationships with him. He took great pride in their lives and always prioritized their dreams, hopes, and well-being. His love and support for them knew no bounds.
In his professional life, Jeff worked in railway safety, where he became an invaluable asset to the industry. He taught safety classes and built educational programs that will be valued and relied upon for years to come. Jeff was also a firefighter in Indiana, which he felt immense pride in helping his community. His impact in the field, much like in his personal life, was one of dedication, expertise, and a passion for helping others.
Jeff was a major Michigan Wolverines fan, always ensuring to cheer on his favorite team any chance he was able to. Faith was also an integral part of Jeffrey's life. He grew up as a Christian and carried his faith with him, drawing strength from it through the challenges he faced. His faith, alongside his family's love, sustained him through the toughest of times.
Jeffrey is survived by his beloved wife, Niki, his children; Dezirae Nevaeh Hall, Andrew Michael Sturgeon, Azlynn Nicole Hall, Ashton John Sturgeon, Paizley Grace Wilson, Azalea Mae Wilson, and Audrie Claire Sturgeon; his parents, Ronald and Doretta Sturgeon, and many extended family and friends. Jeff is proceeded in death by his grandparents; Harold and Barbara Pendleton as well as Dean and Alma Sturgeon, and his aunt, Patricia Templeton.
