In Loving Memory of Jo Ann Sikes
1931 - 2026
Jo Ann Sikes peacefully departed this world on May 26, 2026, at the age of 94. Jo Ann, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, was born on November 23, 1931, in the small town of Barry, Texas, to parents John Wesley Elliott and Bertha Elizabeth (Speegle) Elliott.
Jo Ann's journey through life was marked by steadfast devotion, kindness, and a gentle spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She married Roy Leon Sikes on August 1, 1955, in Navarro County, embarking on a nearly 30-year union filled with love, faith, and adventure. Together, Jo Ann and Leon traversed the world, first with Leon’s career in the Air Force, and later through their shared ministry, as he served as a pastor and she embraced her role as a supportive and loving pastor’s wife until Leon's passing in 1985.
Jo Ann channeled her love for people and numbers into a lifetime of work in clerical and retail positions. Her professional journey culminated at Woodforest National Bank, where she devoted over a decade of service, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Jo Ann's heart was ever full of the joy of music, the written word, and the beauty of the world around her. A person of deep faith, she found joy in service to her congregations as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and lifelong learner of the Word. Her faith community at First Baptist Buda, Texas, was especially dear to her, as was the company of her sister Elinor, with whom she shared many cherished memories.
Jo Ann's gentle nature and patient soul were hallmarks of her Christian journey, radiating warmth and kindness to everyone she met. Her final years were spent in senior living, where her sweetness and kindness endeared her to all around her.
Jo Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roy Leon Sikes, her parents, her sisters Ernestine Speed and Elinor Seago, and her brother John W. Elliott, as well as her niece LaJeane Fain. She is lovingly remembered by her nephew Larry Don Pollock and his wife, Robin, her nieces Renee Speed and Annette Lincoln and her husband Seth. Her great-nephews and nieces are Amanda Antman and her husband John, Julie Cooper, Elliott Pollock and his wife Erin, Lindsay Fain, Sam and Joshua Elliott and Paige Palmer.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Franklin Park in Boerne, Texas, Oak Ridge Special Care Alzheimer's Center in Haltom City and Kindful Health Hospice for their devoted care of Jo Ann in her final years.
In lieu of flowers, any donations in memory of Jo Ann should be made to First Baptist Church of Buda, Texas or Kindful Health Hospice.
