1957 - 2025
Johnny Paul McGreger, 67, passed away from surgical complications on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the Medical City Fort Worth hospital. He was born on May 1, 1957 in Weatherford, Texas to Oliver (Tooter) Eugene McGreger and Jonell (Kendrick) McGreger. He had two sisters, Barbara Joan McGreger and Debra (Debbie) Jean (McGreger) Windle, and a brother, Jeff Eugene McGreger. During his childhood, Johnny's father moved the family to Grapevine, Texas. When he was twelve (12), Johnny's father, mother, one sister (Barbara Joan) and paternal grandparents were killed in a head-on collision outside of Comanche, Texas. At that time, Johnny was moved to Parker County to live with family members. He attended Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Texas with the Class of 1975 and completed coursework to obtain his GED from Pasadena City College, Pasadena, California in 2003. Johnny dated Julia (Julie) Ann Catron during their high school years and they were married on July 3, 1976, shortly after Julie graduated from Weatherford High School. For most of his adult life, he resided in Parker County with the exception of a few years spent in Houston, Texas and San Marino, California. Over his working career, Johnny worked with a concrete company, oil tool manufacturers and as the Greenskeeper Manager of the Horseshoe Bend Lot Owners' Association properties. While working for Antelope Oil Tool, Johnny received a commendation for designing a modification to an equipment part that resulted in a significant financial savings in the production process. He greatly enjoyed water skiing, boating and fishing throughout his lifetime and moved to Horseshoe Bend in 2003 to be near the Brazos River. In 2002, he registered a red-ear sunfish for largest weight and size caught at Bryson Lake with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Angler Recognition program. After entering disability retirement, Johnny persisted in physical therapy to the extent that he was ultimately able to completely remodel their home. Johnny continued to fish when he could find the time and loved his productive peach trees. He also loved barbequing, eating at Taco Casa, visiting with his grandchildren and making daily trips into town to get a Dr. Pepper. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters and is survived by his brother, Johnny; Wife, Julie, two (2) children, seven (7) grandchildren, two (2) great-grandchildren and dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. His surviving children are Amy Price and husband, Carl Price of Weatherford, TX, and Amber Garvin and husband, Mikeal of Weatherford, TX. The grandchildren are Carl Jordan (C.J.) Price, Gavyn Price, Autumn Price, Victoria (Tori) Woodall, Katherine Woodall, Zachery (Zac) Woodall and Gwendolyn (Gwen) Garvin. His great-grandchildren are Ariana and Montrel Woodall. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church, 7156 Brazos Trail, Weatherford, Texas. All are welcome to attend a dinner in the church Fellowship Hall after the service.
