In Loving Memory of Kenneth Edward (Ken) Mitchell
1939 - 2024
Kenneth Edward (Ken) Mitchell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and artist, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on July 21, 1939, in Caddo, Texas, he was the youngest son of Richard and Etoy Mitchell. Kenneth grew up in a warm and loving home in Pampa, Texas, alongside his older brother, Dwayne.
From an early age, Ken was instilled with strong values and faith. He was raised in the church and was baptized as a young adult, a commitment that shaped his life. A proud graduate of the University of North Texas, he met his soulmate, Jane, at a bowling alley in Fort Worth. They tied the knot on December 14, 1963, embarking on a journey filled with love and laughter. As a devoted father, Ken was known for his playful spirit, often finding opportunities to prank and entertain his children. He and Jane raised their family in River Oaks, Texas, creating a home filled with joy and creativity. An accomplished artist, Ken had a remarkable talent for singing, drawing, painting, acting, and playing guitar. He owned Ken Mitchell Photography Company for over a decade, sharing his love of photography with countless clients.
Ken had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, particularly enjoying fishing in the beautiful Ozarks of Arkansas. His relationship with Christ was a cornerstone of his life; he was a longstanding member of Central Christian Church in Fort Worth for over 60 years. He played a significant role in the community as one of the founders and first main curators of the Christian Arts Museum of Fort Worth, where he inspired others through his passion for the arts and Christ.
Ken was not only an extraordinary father but also a beloved "Papa" to his grandchildren, Tabatha Hogan-Tafoya and Tristan Hogan. In his later years, he devoted much of his time to helping raise his grandchildren, spending countless days and nights supporting their education and nurturing their dreams.
Ken is survived by his son, Chad Edward Mitchell; his daughter, Karri Mitchell-Hogan, and her husband, Barry Hogan; his granddaughter, Tabatha Hogan-Tafoya, and her husband, Dalton Tafoya; and his grandson, Tristan Hogan. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane Mitchell; his parents, Richard and Etoy Mitchell; and his brother, Dwayne Mitchell, and his wife, Mary Jane Mitchell.
A celebration of Ken's life will take place at First Christian Church of Paradise, Texas, on Saturday, November 9 @ 10:30 AM, located at the corner of 4th and Main St, Paradise, TX 76073. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his love, laughter, and artistic spirit. May he rest in peace.
