In Loving Memory of Pablo Vega
1935 - 2024
Pablo Vega, 89, of Fort Worth, TX passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, after 3 weeks of hospitalization due to a fall.
Born on January 14, 1935, in Elsa, TX to Victor Vega and Flora Olivares-Vega. His life was one of pride, dedication and resilience. Despite leaving school to support his family, he was a lifelong learner who "knew a little about everything and a lot about a lot of things". He sacrificed his education to support his mom and his siblings - three brothers and one sister.
In 1953 he met the love of his life, Mary D Martinez in Galveston, TX. Upon seeing her he told his buddy that he was "going to marry that girl" and true to his word, he did. They have had over 71 wonderful years together.
Pablo began his career in the U.S. Air Force on April 29, 1955, in the Food Service Industry. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable and excelled him through the ranks, eventually becoming a General's Aide. His family had grown and so had his ambitions in life. He finished school and began his travels all over the world. He received many medals and was also awarded the Viet Nam Service Medal.
Despite his demanding career, he worked several jobs. The job he loved the most was playing his music. He was very skilled on the Accordion, 12 string guitar and a regular 6 string guitar. He was very entertaining and brought joy to all.
I don't think he ever slept as he spent so much time with the family on outings and so called "field trips". He was a very prideful man and he always struggled to keep money and food on the table, yet he still made time to spend with each and every "one" of us.
After 26 years of distinguished service, Pablo retired from the Air Force on April 29, 1981. Yet his work ethic did not wane. He began a second career with the Department of Defense, retiring in 2003 after 22 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded to Heaven by his mother, Flora Olivares-Vega, Father, Victor Vega, Sister, Guadalupe Vega-Garcia, and his oldest son, Victor J Vega.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary D Vega, and his children, Belinda T Kirby, Paula Jones, Valerie Gillespie, Veronica Nixon and Valentin Vega. His extended family includes all the in-laws, nine grandchildren who adored him, and eighteen Great Grandchildren and four Great-Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Alberto Vega, Flavio Vega and Victor Vega, Jr and their spouses and children. He also had too many nieces and nephews and cousins to name, but he was loved by them all.
Beyond his role as a dad, he was a friend to many, a confidante to some and a wisdom-giver to many, whether you wanted it or not. His age and knowledge gave him the right to counsel. He was more than a father to many; he was a musician, chef, handyman, painter, builder, gardener and the list goes on. If he couldn't do it, he would learn how. His drive to exceed was stronger than most. There wasn't much he couldn't do. His outlook on life was remarkable and I don't think he ever met a stranger. His humor and penchant for practical jokes brought joy and laughter to many lives. He definitely pulled a few good ones over the years. Too many to name, but if you knew him, I'm sure he pulled a good one on you. Life was never dull with him around and he will be missed by all.
Pablo was taken from us way too soon, though you could say he had a rich and fulfilling life. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created. We can imagine him in Heaven because I can hear him now, doing what he loved most, entertaining all the angels above and God himself with his music and stories. We will all miss his humor and the stories he could tell. Though I've heard them thousands of times, I would give anything to hear another...
Rest in Peace, Pablo Vega. Your memory will be cherished forever.
