Patricia Ann Simpson
1942 - 2017
Patricia Ann Simpson was called to be with our Lord and Savior November 27, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family. Patricia was born on April 22, 1942 to her parents, John Luther Furlong and Odessa Bowen-Furlong in Fort Worth, Texas.
Patricia was the younger of two children and was very active in the Rolling Hills Baptist Church where she showed her talents as a pianist.
In 1960, she graduated from Polytechnic High School in Ft. Worth, TX
Patricia later attended Lakeside Baptist Church where she met her husband Burl and married on July 29, 1967. Patricia and Burl started a family with the birth of their loving daughter, Susan Renee. Patricia was a very devoted wife, homemaker, and loving mother.
She had a tender heart and love for animals and nature. She had many pets over the years, but mostly cats. She was a wonderful cook, and known for her southern specialties like fried potatoes, meatloaf, and cornbread. She loved to garden and grow her family's food- she'd plow, plant, harvest, and can fruits and vegetables.
She was a strong-willed, determined, and resourceful woman who lived through some tough times and challenging situations, but never let it break her spirit.
Patricia's favorite TV shows were her long-loved soap operas, "The Young & Restless," and "The Bold & The Beautiful." She watched these shows for so many years that she felt she knew the characters personally. If they laughed, she'd laugh, if they cried, she'd cry- she was sympathetic to their pain & suffering, and joyful for their happy endings.
She'd watch football on occasion, but if she had a favorite sport, it would have been ice-skating. She really enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics every year.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 60's, and claimed the victory after a brief series of radiation treatments. She was in remission for roughly 13 years, when it returned with a vengeance in 2014- it had metastasized to other areas of her body. She began Chemo-therapy treatment, which she did on/off for 3 years, as her doctors experimented with several types of chemo-drugs, doses, and side-effects. She fought a lengthy battle with cancer, which ultimately lead to kidney failure.
She was very nurturing, thoughtful, and gave love freely. Patricia found peace and serenity in the outdoors and loved flowers. She was a doting grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren- she'd drop everything for a chance to color, get messy with play-dough, or play a round of checkers. Grandchildren often bring a spark of life and joy into their grandparent's hearts, and this holds true in the relationship that Patricia had with her grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed life and never took the special moments for granted. Her memory and love shall remain with all that were blessed to know her.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Burl; her daughter, Susan Cornue and husband Steve; her grandsons, Jordan, Jaxon and Jace Cornue; her nephew, Jeff Willis and wife Linda along with many other loving family members and dear friends.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, John and Odessa Furlong; her sister, Wanda Willis and her nephew, John Charles Willis.
