Rocky James Smithson 1955 ~ 2017 Rocky James Smithson left this world to be with our Lord and Savior on August 26, 2017 in Irving, Texas. Rocky was born to his parents, Bennie James Smithson and Norma LaVerne Collins in Portland, Oregon on May 22, 1955. Rocky was a family man and a very hard worker. He supported his family well and was always there to provide for them. Rocky never knew a stranger, he had a huge heart and was willing to help anyone. Rocky was a proud grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Rocky was a sportsman, and loved the outdoors. Rocky also loved classic television and classic movies. He also rooted for his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. One of Rocky's favorite foods was ice cream, he enjoyed eating it anytime of the day. Most importantly, Rocky was saved by his Lord and Savior. Rocky loved his God and had a close relationship with him. Rocky is survived by his mother; LaVerne Smithson, his daughter; Brandi Ellis and her husband, Allen, his sons; Eric Smithson and his wife, Sara and Josh Smithson and his wife, Avalahn. Rocky also leaves behind his grandchildren, Christian Ellis, Kaily Ellis, Elizabeth Smithson, Owen Smithson, Matthew Smithson, Iris Smithson and Noah Smithson. Last, he leaves behind his brother, Marshall Smithson and his wife, Karen and his sister, Sherrie Porter along with many other loving family members and friends. Rocky is preceded in death by his father, Bennie James Smithson, and his son, Rocky James Smithson Jr. Though the family is deeply saddened at this time for the loss of Rocky, they rejoice and celebrate his life, memory and the impact left on them.
