Obituary

Rodney Stan Armstrong 1956 ~ 2017 Rodney Stan Armstrong, Born August 24, 1956 in Wichita, KS, died July 13 , 2017, at his home in Bedford, TX. He was a retired human Resource director for the City of Topeka. He was the son of Donald V. Armstrong and Nancy E. Angley-Armstrong, who preceded him in death as well as his brother, Thomas R. Armstrong. His survivors include his wife, Victoria K. Key-Armstrong; 4 sons, Rodney A. Armstrong of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel A. Armstrong of North Richland Hills, TX, Nicholas R. Armstrong of Topeka, KS, and Andrew P. Armstrong of Bedford, TX; brother, Donald C. Armstrong of Wichita; sister, Sheri L. Armstrong-Wilhite of Euless, TX; 6 grandchildren, Eva, Tyson, Jay, Mali, Timothy and Paxton. Rodney grew up in Wichita, and graduated from South High where he lettered in football and track. In his senior year, he suffered a stroke that left him in a wheelchair for nearly 2 years. During those 2 years, he was the recipient of a gold medal from the world wheel chair Olympics. He met his wife Vickie during that time as well, and married in 1976. In 1978, he became an Emergency Medical Technician in Wichita, and later moved to Topeka where he eventually went to work for the City. Most of all, Rod loved his family who were with him to the end. He also loved sports and was active in wheelchair basketball and as a coach and mentor to his sons. After his stroke in 1974, he worked hard to overcome his inability to walk, though he suffered from pain for the rest of his life. After surgery in 2000, he retired from his job with the City of Topeka to be able to manage his pain fulltime. Though he endured hardship most of his life, it never prevented him from being there for his family and living life to the fullest. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and those whose lives he has touched. Services will be in Belford, TX at a time to be determined.
