His Story
There are people who leave behind accomplishments, and there are people who leave behind stories. Russell Scott Brooks left both. If you knew Russell, chances are you've been pulled aside at some point, looked in the eye, and reminded just how much you mattered to him. He had a way of making people feel seen, loved, and believed in. That was one of his greatest gifts, and one that will continue to echo through the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Russell Scott Brooks, 56, passed away peacefully at his home in Aledo, Texas, on July 1, 2026. While we believe he suffered a heart attack, there is comfort in knowing he was at home. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Russell spent his life following his curiosity, embracing new challenges, and living with a spirit that refused to stand still.
Creativity was woven into everything he did. He explored countless career paths, always eager to learn something new and master another skill. His entrepreneurial drive led him to build Muggiez, a business he poured himself into before eventually selling it to begin another chapter in contracting. To Russell, learning was never finished. Every new opportunity was simply another chance to grow.
More than his work, Russell was defined by the people he loved. Family wasn't just important to him. It was everything. He never assumed people knew how he felt because he made sure to tell them. Whether you were his wife, child, friend, or someone fortunate enough to cross his path, he wasn't shy about pulling you aside to tell you how proud he was of you, how much you meant to him, and how excited he was to see what your future held. The family asks that those who remember Russell honor him in the way he lived: spend time with the people you love, share what you've learned, never stop being curious, and if you get the chance, take someone fishing.
He also had a personality that could never be mistaken for anyone else's. He carried himself with his chest out, shoulders broad, elbows spread, and enough confidence to make himself a character in every room he entered. Sleeves were optional unless the occasion absolutely demanded them, and his collection of cutoff shirts became just as recognizable as his unmistakable laugh. Russell was unapologetically himself, and somehow gave everyone else permission to be themselves too.
If he could have chosen where to spend every day, it would have been on the lake with the people he loved most. Fishing wasn't simply his favorite pastime. It was how he connected with others. Whether teaching someone a new technique, sharing stories, or simply enjoying the quiet together, the experience always mattered more to him than the catch. He loved passing along what he knew, creating memories, and giving those around him moments they would carry for a lifetime.
Russell viewed life through a lens all his own. His ideas could leave you smiling, shaking your head, and saying, "That's just Russell." Yet somehow, his conviction had a way of making you stop and wonder if maybe he was onto something after all. Long after conversations ended, his words stayed with you.
His legacy lives on in every encouraging conversation, every lesson shared, every day spent on the water, and every reminder to tell the people you love exactly how much they mean to you.
You are loved, our Beautiful Husband, Son, Dad, Brother, Bruthera, Uncle Russ, and Pops
