Obituary

In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Meader Roland Shirley Ann (Meader) Roland, born on January 30, 1946, in the heart of Canton, Ohio, began her earthly journey under the watchful eyes of her parents, James Agnew Meader and Doris Glenora (Clapper) Meader. Her voyage through life reached its conclusion on January 2, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. Shirley attended Canton South High School. She was involved in band, choir, and medical arts groups, graduating in 1964, setting the stage for a life dedicated to compassion and care. Her early years were marked by an innate desire to nurture, leading her to Aultman Nursing School, where she earned her stripes as a registered nurse in 1968. The seeds of her academic curiosity bore fruit with the attainment of a master's degree in nursing from the prestigious University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shirley's unwavering commitment extended beyond her professional pursuits; as a single mother, she seamlessly blended the roles of nurturer, chef, and life mentor for her son. Her culinary prowess was one of many skills she shared with her son, Jim and she took joy in imparting her cooking wisdom, creating a bond that transcended the kitchen. The canvas of Shirley's life was painted with strokes of kindness, her warmth radiating through an ever-present smile. A later convert to Catholicism, she found solace and spiritual connection through her enduring faith. Professionally, Shirley embarked on a diverse nursing career, from the urgency of the emergency room to the strategic oversight of occupational health. She enjoyed her final professional chapter unfolding at Brenco in Petersburg, Virginia, where she served as the Occupational Nurse and Safety Director, ensuring the well-being of those crafting heavy-duty components, including bearings for train wheels. Beyond the realm of medicine, Shirley's artistic flair blossomed in the world of crafts and quilting. Her talents knew no bounds, and she ventured into three-dimensional creations and other crafts with a Cricut machine purchased for her by her son, leaving a legacy of creativity for her family to cherish. Family was the cornerstone of Shirley's life, and her love knew no bounds. Survived by her son, Jim, and his wife, Florence Roland, her cherished granddaughter, Larra Apostol, her brother James Meader, sister Hazel and her husband, Bob Garner, along with five nephews, a niece, and an extended network of family and friends, Shirley's impact echoes through generations. A celebration of Shirley's life is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 2 PM, with visitation starting at 1 PM at Roberts Martinez Funeral Home, 4200 Denton Hwy, Haltom City, Texas, 76117.
