Helen Dietz Obituary

Helen Virginia Dietz
1926 – 2020

Helen Virginia Dietz went to her heavenly home on February 4, 2020.  Helen was born on June 21, 1926 to her parents, Percy Jefferson Burke and Willie Chicora (Briggs) Burke in Davidson, Oklahoma.

Helen was the youngest of six children and she was raised in a happy home. When she was eleven, her mother tragically passed away, and this event marked the most significant event of her childhood. She was a good student, a spelling bee champion, and she went on to become a high school basketball star.

Helen met the love of her life, R. Fred Dietz, shortly after he returned from service in WWII. The two were married three months later on March 24, 1946. Helen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at age 25 and Fred followed in her footsteps. Within two years, he was called into the ministry.

As a loving mother of five and devoted pastor’s wife, Helen was active in numerous ministries, and like her mother before her, was known for her hospitality (and terrific cooking!). In later years, she became an award-winning district manager for Avon, covering over 15 counties.

Helen is survived by her husband Fred, daughters Mary Helen Johnson (James), Ruth Anne Stanton Dietz, and Barbara Corke (Roger); sons James Dietz (Rebecca) and David Dietz (Candance); seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Steffey and brother, David Burke; numerous nieces and nephews; along with other loving family members and dear friends.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Willie Burke; her brother, Edward Burke; her sisters, Bonita Charlton and Billie Rue Burke; as well as her favorite aunt, Nina Pearl Briggs.

A graveside service will be held on February 7th, 2020 at 9:00am (LANE ONE) at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
