Liam McKay Obituary

Liam Vaughn McKay, precious son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 21, 2021 after a courageous two yearlong battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Azle & Lake Worth Funeral Chapel.

Liam was born on April 28, 2017 in Durant, Oklahoma to Bryan McKay and Lonna Gilmore.  Everyone who knew him would describe him as strong, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.  No obstacle showed challenge in his presence, whether it was a baby gate, door, escaping his crib, or navigating his tablet.  Rather than ask or take help, Liam always figured out the answer to all situations himself.  From a young age, he had such a high level of drive and determination that put adults around him to shame.  If Liam wanted to go for a walk, even during a chemo treatment, he would fight through the pain to do so; it seemed the harder it was for him to do what he wanted, the more ferociously he would push through and fight to do so.  Liam found the greatest joy in such small things, from the peace and comfort brought to him when his father would read him bedtime stories, the delight in playing with his cars, to a love of trains and building tracks.  He had so much potential and promise at just four years old; he even took it upon himself to learn addition and subtraction on his tablet and read his first book “Pete the Cat, and the Five Little Bunnies.”  Liam’s infectious laugh, uncanny ability to brighten your day with a simple hug, or enthusiastic words will always be remembered in the hearts of so many people whose lives he touched.

Liam will be forever missed by his father, Bryan McKay; mother, Lonna Gilmore; older sister, Winter McKay; little brother, Ian McKay; grandmother, Dolores Holcombe; grandfather, Alan Gilmore; aunt, Donna Henderson; cousin, David MacDonald; and the entire staff and dedicated nurses at Cooks Children’s Hospital whom Liam’s family is extremely thankful to for the kindness and care they showed throughout his time.
