Raymond Lee Heid 

1949 - 2020 

Raymond Lee Heid, age 70, from Azle, TX, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020, surrounded by his wife and children.  Born on May 1, 1949 in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clifford Heid and Margaret (James) Heid.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sherry Heid and their children Brian and Nikki. His former wife, Elizabeth Secrest, and their children Michael, Scott, and Jason.  His brother John Heid and wife Denise of Ohio. Eleven grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.

Aside from family, Ray’s greatest devotion to serving his country. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee for 21 years, never once setting foot on a ship. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served 3 tours. He achieved the rank of Senior Chief.  

Ray’s experience as a Seabee played a very important part in his life. He embodied the motto “Can Do”. He would share stories of climbing electrical poles under live combat to support his unit. After retiring from the military Ray continued his love of building with several school districts in California. He retired in Azle, TX to be closer to his family and grandchildren. In retirement he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, among many other hobbies.

Roberts Family Funeral Home will be holding a private service and military funeral this Friday, May 1 at DFW National Cemetery.

Due to COVID-19 the service will be limited to the immediate family only.
