Walter G. Greer, of Keller, Texas, passed away on April 29, 2022.
He was born June 25, 1947, in Ripley, Tennessee, the youngest of 11 children. He graduated Ripley High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He met his wife, Barbara, at a dance in 1968, and spent nearly every day together for the next 54 years. He often said that joining the Air Force and marrying Barbara were two of his best decisions and he never regretted them.
Walter’s U.S. Air Force career allowed him and his family to travel the world, where they always enjoyed mingling with the locals and experiencing the local culture. He remembered fondly the family’s adventures in Europe and remained a fan of traveling and all things Dutch and German.
He was honorably discharged in 1991, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Golden Gate University and went on to have a long career at BNSF-Burlington Northern Santa Fe, a brief but rewarding career at Ameritrade, followed by a well-deserved retirement.
He enjoyed traveling and good food. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made the most scrumptious Sunday waffles. He was very meticulous, organized and always had the cleanest car in the neighborhood. He was also warm and friendly and could make a stranger smile with his dad jokes.
He is survived by his beloved Barbara, his children Walter Jr. and Tanja, and his granddaughters Lia, Bella and Greta, who will all miss him very much.
A graveside service will be held on May 19, 2022, at DFW National Cemetery beginning at 2:15 PM.
